My ‘commute to work’ soundtrack over the past couple of days – this stunningly gorgeous album by Rebecca Wright & Donald McKay called ‘Over Burns and Braes’.

The recording quality is superb (recorded, mixed & mastered by Pix Vane Mason), the artwork and packaging is quite exquisite (Rebecca & Donald, with assistance from Nicole Murray), and the 11 songs (mainly traditional Scots, with a Judy Small cover, and two Rebecca originals) are a sheer delight. Donald’s requinto guitar has a charming, harp like quality, Rebecca & Donald, in solo or in harmony, are both fantastic vocalists, and the cello/guitar/bodhran instrumental underpinnings provide a distinctive “voice” for them as a duo. Some additional assistance from John Thompson & Nicole Murray on vocals, Emma Nixon on fiddle & vocals, & Simon de Voil on piano, rounds out the sound on a couple of the songs. Launched at a delightful double CD launch on Sunday 20/3/16 at the Danish Club, this CD is a fine & desirable thing!!
